Welsh 3000's Challenge
NEW DATES ADDED FOR OPEN CHALLENGES: Friday 18th April 2025 Saturday 3rd May 2025 These events are now guaranteed to run! The Welsh 3000's is a classic mountain challenge that we aim to complete in less than 24 hours. The route spans around 50km in length with 4000 metres of ascent, including getting to/from the first and last summits. This is a long and strenuous day suitable for experienced mountain walkers with a high level of fitness and stamina for 24 hours of physical activity. We will start the challenge at Pen-y-Pass and finish at either Abergwyngregyn or Bethesda. Depending on the logistical needs of the group we will arrange connecting transport, there will also be a support vehicle stationed on the route to provide refreshments and kit changes. We will usually summit the following mountains in this order but it's also possible to complete the challenge from North to South, the three summits of the Snowdon range can also be walked in the opposite direction: Crib Goch: 923m Garnedd Ugain/Crib y Ddysgl: 1065m Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon: 1085m Elidir Fawr: 924m Y Garn: 947m Glyder Fawr: 1001m (Castell y Gwynt: 972m) Glyder Fach: 994m Tryfan: 918m Pen yr Ole Wen: 978m Carnedd Dafydd: 1044m Yr Elen: 962m Carnedd Llewellyn: 1064m Foel Grach: 976m (Carnedd Gwenllian: 926m) Foel Fras: 942m The route is sometimes referred to as the Welsh 14, 15 or even 16 peaks if the tops of Castell y Gwynt & Carnedd Gwenllian are included. The latter we will likely summit anyway as part of our route whereas Castell y Gwynt is an optional scramble on the Glyderau plateau. The route can be broken into three stages of the three mountain ranges: Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon, Glyderau and Carneddau; there is road access in each valley between these ranges, check out the gallery below for a map. Private group bookings: Please get in touch via the contact page for availability and quotes. Individual bookings: Spaces are £195 per person, we are able to run an open event with a minimum of 4 participants so please get in contact to register your interest. As a final note, we can also offer the Welsh 3000's as a 3 day challenge taking in each major range over a single day each. This gives a steady but more relaxed opportunity to ascend all of the mountains, you can register your interest by contacting us.
