Hiraethog Trail Challenge

18 hr
125 British pounds
Pentrefoelas, Betws-y-Coed.

NEW DATES ADDED FOR OPEN CHALLENGES: Saturday 29th March 2025 Saturday 10th May 2025 These events are now guaranteed to run! The Hiraethog Trail is a beautiful long distance footpath of 68km (42 miles) that passes through the stunning landscapes of rural Conwy and Denbighshire. The terrain underfoot comprises of forest tracks, farmland pastures and minor lanes; the route is hilly in places and ascends approximately 1600m. We start in Pentrefoelas (on the A5, not far from Betws-y-Coed) at 6am and aim to finish the route by midnight, within 18 hours. Depending on the needs of the group, we can help arrange connecting transport. There will also be a support vehicle stationed on the route to provide refreshments and kit changes. We start the route from the village of Pentrefoelas along the edge of Mynydd Hiraethog (the Denbigh Moors) and pass through the rural villages of Cerrigydrudion, Llangwm & Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr before heading deep into the expansive Clocaenog Forest. Excellent forest tracks then take us to the highest point of the region, Craig Bron Banog at 502 metres, the woodland views are extensive. We then traverse hilly terrain northwards to the villages of Cyffylliog & Llanrhaeadr and skirt around the edge of the market town of Denbigh. The last stretch of our route is on different terrain again, we walk along the open farmlands in the Vale of Clwyd to the end of the trail at Bodfari on the Offa's Dyke path. Private group bookings: Please get in touch via the contact page for availability and quotes. Individual bookings: Spaces are £125 per person, we are able to run an open event with a minimum of 4 participants so please get in contact to register your interest. As a final note, we can also offer the Hiraethog Trail as a 2 day challenge by splitting the route into two halves at the Clocaenog Forest. This still gives an excellent and challenging walk of around 35km or 20 miles per day and local accommodation can be found close to the trail. If this would interest you then please use the contact page.
