Dolgellau is at the heart of southern Eryri/Snowdonia and amongst mountain goers it is most well known for the majestic Cader Idris. The town has mountain ranges on all sides and on most of these it is rare to see many other walkers. To the northwest is the rugged & expansive Rhinogydd, to the east lie the sweeping Maesglase hills & the Dyfi Forest and to the south is the dominating skyline of Cader Idris with the Tarren hills beyond. Though none of the mountains or hills here are as high as the 3000ft peaks further north, they are every bit as inspiring, often very rocky and feel decidedly more remote. From Dolgellau we can plan a meticulous route across the craggy tops of Rhinog Fach & Y Llethr, find solace between the woodlands & waterfalls of Maesglase or devise a walk from coast to summit on the Tarren hills.
