Brenig Way Challenge

95 British pounds
Corwen, Denbighshire.

NEW DATES ADDED FOR OPEN CHALLENGES: Saturday 22nd February 2025 Saturday 5th April 2025 These events are now guaranteed to run! The Brenig Way is one of Denbighshire’s best point-to-point trails, it is 51km (32 miles) long and climbs around 1500m over its length. The route begins in the Dee Valley town of Corwen and takes a snaking but logical line through peaceful villages and extensive forests to reach the well known lake of Llyn Brenig. The terrain is made up of forest tracks, farmland footpaths and minor lanes. We start in Corwen (well connected on the A5) at 8am and aim to finish the route in 12 hours. Depending on the needs of the group, we can help arrange connecting transport. There will also be a support vehicle stationed on the route to provide refreshments and kit changes. Walking from the historic town of Corwen, with its connections to the legendary Owain Glyndŵr, Prince of Wales, we start with a short section along the River Dee to the village of Cynwyd. From Cynwyd there are a couple of hills and valleys to cross before heading north with more riverside paths along the Afon Alwen & Clwyd, the terrain then changes rapidly as we enter the huge Clocaenog Forest. After almost 10km of quiet forest tracks we pass through the riverside village of Cyffylliog, here the river Afon Clywedog takes us back into the forest climbing steadily to our destination, Llyn Brenig. The final stretch of our route is alongside the lake shore and over the impressive dam to the Llyn Brenig visitor centre where you might be lucky enough to see the resident Ospreys. Private group bookings: Please get in touch via the contact page for availability and quotes. Individual bookings: Spaces are £95 per person, we are able to run an open event with a minimum of 4 participants so please get in contact to register your interest. As a final note, we can also offer the Brenig Way as a 2 day challenge by splitting the route into two halves close to the Clocaenog Forest. This still gives an excellent and challenging walk of around 25km or 16 miles per day and local accommodation can be found close to the route. If this would interest you then please use the contact page.
